Flower Chafer (2024)

Synopsis:
The chafers are usually beetles that are herbivours being found on flowers, tree sap and rotting fruit. Seemingly, they will appear in groups and begin heavy feeding on them. The nectories - being in this beautiful symbiosis, will give them all. Yet, does the supply meets demand?

This piece explores gender dynamics in society, focusing particularly on male expectations placed upon women. Using an imbalanced ratio, more male performers and one female, the work symbolically evokes the relationship between a flower and bees. The chaotic, energetic, and jazzy quality of the movement reflects this tension and pursuit. Developed through a collaborative process, the piece is still evolving and can be considered a work in progress.
